Walking in another’s shoes...

Unless we are sharing a life with another person, it’s very hard to totally understand not only why they act and speak the way they do, but also the experiences that have formed from their interactions with others.

I know there is a lot of stuff available through the internet today, but I have yet to see a product that really lets us read other folk’s minds or know them inside and out.

Isn’t it frustrating or deflating when others who do not really know you, treat you with ambivalence or just plain ignore your circumstances?

It’s a spiritual principle that we should treat others like we wish to be treated.

Part of the 12 Step favored St. Francis Prayer shares that we should seek to understand before seeking to be understood.

Think about it.

Who truly knows you inside and out?..

Check your experience….

“We cannot be helpful to all people, but at least God will show us how to take a kindly and tolerant view of each and everyone.” Big Book pg. 67

Lord, let us first seek to understand others before we ask to be understood. Let us treat others the way we wish to be treated, AMEN.

“Look out for one another’s interests, not just for your own.” Philippians 2:4

Have a blessed day Y’all!

What fuels our self-will?...

Think about it, the character defects of Pride, Anger, Greed, Lust, Envy, Gluttony, and Sloth (PAGLEGS) to my 12 Step friends are the driving forces behind every incident of self-will here on Earth.

God knew this when He created us and knows this to be true of every human because it’s included in our free will.

Our hope is in the fact that we can turn our will over to the care of God and then these defects of character can no longer run our lives and put us into situations that cause us and others pain.

What makes the Bible so vibrant and vital to every generation and time period, including today, is the fact that despite minor details, there is nothing new that the Bible doesn’t address…

Check your experience…

“As we go through the day we pause, when agitated or doubtful, and ask for the right thought or action. We constantly remind ourselves we are no longer running the show, humbly saying to ourselves many times each day “Thy will be done.” We are then in much less danger of excitement, fear, anger, worry, self-pity, or foolish decisions. We become much more efficient.” Big Book pgs 87-88

Lord, let us turn our will and our lives over to you daily and receive grace, peace, comfort, and direction, AMEN.

“What has been is the same as what will be, and what has been done is the same as what will be done; there is nothing new under the sun.” Ecclesiastes 1:9

Have a blessed day Y’all!!

It ain't about the stuff we gain...

Whoever dies with the most toys DOES NOT win.

It's common practice for us to try to measure our success in ourselves and others by the size and amount of stuff we have.

The problem with this standard is that it's an illusion of the truth.

Whenever I find myself slipping back into this type of thinking I also tend to become less satisfied with what I already have as well as falsely base my happiness on the need to gain more stuff.

Perhaps it's different for you, but my hope is that you are not measuring your worth to others and God based on the material stuff you have.

God and others who really matter in our lives love us for who we are and not for what stuff we have...

Check your experience…

"In the realm of the material, men's minds were fettered by superstition, tradition, and all sorts of fixed ideas." Big Book pg. 51

Lord, please let us see that our worth is based on what's in our hearts and not by the stuff we acquire, AMEN.

"For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out." 1 Timothy 6:7
